The theme of this series is inspired by a book ALONE TOGETHER, written by Sherry Turkle.
It refers to a social phenomenon that people eager to the intimate relationship but
don't want to spend much time on it in real life. It seems that the technology offers such a
convenience to people cause they can get in touch with more people in less time. They can
connect in this virtual world through a simple text, a thumb-up without small talk and eye
contact. But in fact, the more time people spend on networking sites, the more a sense of
loneliness they would feel.
After reading this book, I am curious about the relationship between humans and the
virtual world brought by the internet.
In this project, I attempted to design clothes in a storytelling way, so a piece of clothes looked different from the others. This clothing played a role as the foreword of this story, and it was designed into a shape like a worn consisting of seven heads and fourteen hands because the number, seven, stands for seven days, a week and repetition. It indicates a diseased behaviour and a cycle that the more people indulge themselves with virtual socializing and fake self in their illusion, the more they will lose their true self. Then the next “story” follows. I designed two wearing states for the rest of the clothes, and these clothes can be transformed to show different emotional changes in the process of performing on stage.
